Kolisnyk, Peter Henry
Ground Outline
1978

Peter Kolisnyk was born in Toronto and studied at Western Technical School. His body of work, which includes paintings and sculptures, can be understood within the context of Minimalists such as Donald Judd, Carl Andre and Robert Morris. Ground Outline is a formal frame, akin to Kolisnyk’s other outline pieces, that is vitally connected to its surroundings. The piece was initially installed at Harbourfront in Toronto. Queen’s campus was surveyed to find a location that did justice to the sculpture: the sweeping slope of Summerhill park is a dramatic setting for this work. Ground Outline puts the landscape on stage for passersby and heightens their awareness of their presence in it.
